Discreet, without a detour via the doctor

In Switzerland the morning-after pill is available without a prescription, but not without a conversation. There is a good reason for that: whether it works reliably depends on when it happened, where you are in your cycle and which other medicines you take. We clear that up in a few minutes.

The conversation takes place in the closed consulting room, not at the counter. You do not have to explain in front of other customers what it is about.

What you should know afterwards

The morning-after pill only covers sex that has already happened. Until your next period you also need a condom. If your period is more than a week later than expected, take a pregnancy test.

The morning-after pill does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. If you are unsure about that, we will tell you in the conversation where you can get tested.

If you are looking for contraception that suits you better, the pharmacist consultation is the right setting, unhurried and by appointment.

Frequently asked questions about the morning-after pill

How long after sex can I take the morning-after pill?

Depending on the product, up to 72 hours or up to 120 hours after unprotected sex. Either way, the sooner the better. We work out which product suits you in the conversation.

Do I need a prescription or an appointment?

No. We dispense the morning-after pill after a short conversation. The conversation is required by law and takes a few minutes.

Will anyone at the counter overhear?

No. We talk in the separate consulting room with the door closed. At the counter you only need to say that you would like a private consultation.

What if the pharmacy is closed?

Outside our opening hours, the emergency pharmacy can help. Which one is on duty is listed on our emergency page.

Is the morning-after pill an abortion pill?

No. It delays or prevents ovulation. It does not end an existing pregnancy and does not harm it.
