Why at the pharmacy

Vaccination at the pharmacy has been possible in Switzerland for some years, and it has caught on for a simple reason: you need no doctor’s appointment and you do not wait three weeks. You drop by, we take twenty minutes, and you are back out again.

We vaccinate in a separate room with a couch, not between the shelf and the till. That applies to the flu vaccination just as it does to the TBE vaccination against ticks. Beforehand we discuss what you already have and what is missing, and afterwards you wait with us for a short while, as is proper.

Eight vaccinations, and the limit at 16 years

In Switzerland pharmacies may vaccinate without a doctor’s prescription, but not everything and not everyone. The rule is the same everywhere: healthy people aged 16 and over. Within that limit, the list in Zug covers these eight vaccinations.

Three groups we may not vaccinate:

• children and adolescents under 16 years of age
• pregnant women
• people with a relevant pre-existing condition

We also do not give long-haul travel vaccinations, for instance against yellow fever, typhoid, Japanese encephalitis or rabies. That is not reticence but the regulation in force. We will tell you where to go with those.

What it costs

The price is made up of the vaccine plus CHF 25 for the vaccination service, including the preliminary conversation and the observation afterwards. You pay at the pharmacy and you need no prescription.

Prices may change slightly depending on how the vaccine is purchased; we tell you the exact amount before the vaccination. For vaccinations with several doses, the price is per dose.

Bring your vaccination record, even if you are only coming about one thing

The most common thing we find is not a missing flu vaccination but expired boosters for tetanus, diphtheria and TBE – the tick vaccination runs out after ten years, and nobody notices that by themselves. If you have your record with you, we will spend two minutes checking what else is due. That costs nothing and saves a second trip.

If you can no longer find your vaccination record: come anyway. We reconstruct what can be reconstructed and start a new one.

A vaccination appointment, or just drop by

For the flu vaccination it is enough to come by during opening hours. If you would rather plan, we will reserve you a vaccination appointment and then you do not wait at all. For all other vaccinations an appointment is the better route, because we order the vaccine in.

For businesses

If you are planning for a whole team rather than for yourself, we will organise it: a flu vaccination drive for businesses needs an appointment and around fifteen minutes per person. Whether we come to you or you come to us depends on team size and rooms. Planning sensibly starts in September.
